A review of North American PP plant capacities is presented. Also reviewed are 12 world scale steamcrackers and polyethylene plants targeted to come online in Iran during the next several years.
August 2002 US domestic consumption for first 5 months of 2002 is reviewed. US exports for polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and PVC are conpared with those from Western Europe and Japan. The world market for polypropylene is reviewed. Production is forecast out to 2006. The 2001 market is reviewed in detail for each of the six regions of the world and provids data on consumption, production and capacities. Possible plants in the planning stage ( about 22 million tons) plus another 3.5 million tons in construction are reviewed by each region of the world. Based on this, only about 26% should be built and the rest canceled or postponed to come online after 2006. US market pricing and new plant construction for all of the volume polymers for the world is also reviewed.
June 2002 Reviews variations in recent consultant reports, with emphasis on new Mid East steamcracker capacity over period 2001 to 2009. A plant by plant analysis is included. Also included is a review of Mid East polyethylene plants. A plant by plant analysis is provided for plants coming online from 1964 to 2005. In addition, the Newsletter lists other plants in the planning stage, but for which no online target is available. February 2002 Updated growth in GDP data is reviewed along with the proposed merger of Sumitomo and Mitsui's polyolefins business. Preliminary estimates are given for the changes in capacity and production for 2001 compared with 2000 on a world-wide basis. The relative profitability of the US Polypropylene market is reviewed. All new plant announcements during February are reviewed.
January 2002 Chinese import tariffs for the volume polymers are updated for the period 2001 to 2008. A pricing review for the volume polymers (PE, PP, styrenics, PVC) was initiated with the January issue. All new plant announcements during January world-wide are reviewed.
The July Newsletter reviews the relative profitability of the US Polypropylene producers during the first half of 2001. The planned construction of petrochemical and plastic plants in Iran is reviews. The March Newsletter: The after tax profits for 2000 for nine major polymer producers is reviewed. These range from 0.7% to 23% of sales. Of the 10 PVC producers in Western Europe, seven are new names to the industry over the past 15 monthes. These companies and their capacities are reviewed. Over the past month, five PE companies, five PP companies, 4 styrenic companies and five PVC companies have reported plans to revise their capacities or open new facilities. These are reviewed. February 2001 Newsletter outlines in detail the market forces that are causing US polyethylene prices to rise dramatically in January and February. Most grades are rising 5 cents per pound in January and producers are asking for another 6 cents per pound in February.
The Newsletter also lists all the new polyethylene plants that are targeted to come online in 2001. In addition, it summarizes six new polyethylene plants that are being targeted to come online worldwide.
